Service Learning

At Empower Public Relations, we are excited to work with Capital Area Special Olympics this semester. Capital Area Special Olympics provides children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports competitions within the greater Baton Rouge area.

By working with Capital Area Special Olympics, we have the opportunity to participate in service-learning, which reinforces what we learn in the classroom by providing us with real-world application. This mutually beneficial partnership between Capital Area Special Olympics and Empower Public Relations allows us to provide service for an outstanding non-profit organization while gaining hands-on experience that we can apply in our future careers.

Our account executive and research director plan to meet with Capital Area Special Olympics this week to get the ball rolling. Our goals for the organization focus on increasing awareness and acceptance and ultimately turning that into action. We centered our acceptance and awareness goals on social media and gaining more likes on the Capital Area Special Olympics Facebook page. We focused our action goal on turning those likes into funds, as well as gaining more sponsors for the organization that will help raise money even after our partnership ends.

Empower Public Relations recognizes the important work Capital Area Special Olympics does for the greater Baton Rouge area. We look forward to extending our education beyond LSU’s campus by collaborating with Capital Area Special Olympics to magnify their voice and reach in our community.
